Wake Forest and Florida State will meet on Friday to kick off an ACC series in college baseball action.

In the first of a three game series two top 25 teams face off on Friday as No. 23 Wake Forest travels to take on No. 4 Florida State at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles are currently 24-4 overall with a 7-2 ACC record which has them in first place in the standings. The team’s most recent game was played against Jacksonville earlier in the week and resulted in an 11-10 win. Jacksonville started the game with five runs in the first inning, but the Seminoles answered with two runs in the first from a Max Williams home run. In the second, James Hankerson Jr. hit a solo home run bringing the score within two runs before Myles Bailey singled to score a run which was followed by a wild pitch to bring home Alex Lodise to regain the lead. After Jacksonville went ahead in the fourth, Williams homered again, tying the game. Later in the inning Brody Delamielleur hit an RBI double which was followed by a Drew Faurot RBI single. Lodise brought in the final two runs with a two-run single in the seventh. Florida State used seven different pitchers in the game, with Joe Charles earning the win and Ben Barrett earning the save.

The Demon Deacons bring a record of 21-9 overall with a 7-5 ACC conference record, putting them in fourth place in the ACC standings. The last game for the Demon Deacons was played against High Point on Tuesday and resulted in a big 13-1 win. The scoring started with Matt Scannell scoring on a throwing error in the third inning and it lit a fire under the Demon Deacons. In the fourth inning Matt Conte doubled, scoring Luke Costello and Dalton Wentz. In the fifth Costello doubled to bring home Jack Winnay before Conte singled, scoring Costello. The fifth inning saw another three runs come home to make it a 6-0 game before a big five-inning sixth greatly extended the lead. The final two runs were plated in the seventh and High Point finally got on the board with a single run in the eighth. The win went to Chris Levonas who pitched for five innings and struck out 10 batters.

The Demon Deacons and the Seminoles have met a total of 72 times in their history and the Seminoles currently hold a 47-25 lead in the all-time series. The most recent meeting took place in May of last season and resulted in a 9-6 win for Florida State.
