No. 2 seed Wake Forest will battle the regional’s No. 4 seed in Miami (OH) in Game 3 of the Knoxville Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on the campus of the University of Tennessee. The Demon Deacons finished their season with a 36-21 overall record and a 16-14 record against teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They opened up the regional yesterday with a game against the regional’s No. 3 seed, Cincinnati, and lost 11-6 to send them to this elimination game. Blake Morningstar started the game and gave up 10 earned runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts.

Luke Schmolke, Rhys Bowi, and Griffin Green finished the game scoreless on the mound. Despite the loss, Marek Houston, Jack Winery, and Dalton Wentz all homered in the win. Wentz and Houston finished with two RBIs each, with Wentz having one more hit. Winnay and Austin Hawke both finished with one RBI each.

The Red Hawks closed out their regular season with a 35-22 record overall and a 23-7 record against teams in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. Winning that conference tournament is what earned the regional’s No. 4 seed a trip to the NCAA Tournament. They took on the regional host, Tennessee, the national No. 16 seed, in the first game and lost 9-2 on Friday.

Katskee Cooper started the game on the mound and ended up with just his second loss of the season. He threw 3.1 innings, giving up five earned runs with one strikeout. Carson Byers finished the final 4.2 innings with only one earned run. Evan Appelwick homered for Miami in the win on a solo shot on his only hit of the game. David Novak was the only other player on the team with an RBI.
