William & Mary will head into game two of their Coastal Athletic series with UNC-Wilmington on Saturday in college baseball action.

The William & Mary Tribe will look to bounce back from a tough 9-1 loss to the UNCW Seahawks on Friday night at Brooks Field. With the loss, the Tribe dropped to 12-21 overall and 6-4 in conference play which puts them in third place in the standings. The team has now lost three in a row and will look to rally on Saturday and Sunday to get back on the winning side of things. Friday night’s loss was credited to Chad Yates on the mound after he gave up four earned runs in just 0.1 innings after receiving the start. The team’s only run came from Christian Rush in the fourth with a solo shot to left center, but the Tribe was already trailing by five at that point and was unable to make up the deficit. UNCW was held to just five hits and left seven on base which would have made for a very different game had the runners made it home.

The Seahawks are now in sixth place in the conference standings with a CAA record of 5-5 and an overall record of 17-17 to sit at .500 across the board. Zane Taylor got the start on the mound and threw out three while giving up one earner run and one hit. Trace Baker came in for relief in the fifth inning and struck out five batters to earn his second win of the season. It was Trevor Lucas who was most impressive on the diamond for the Seahawks, however, as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBI. Lucas hit an RBI single in the first, an RBI double in the sixth and a two-run homer to left field e in the eighth to help power his team to one of its biggest wins of the season. The other two earned runs came from Tanner. Thach and Bryan Arendt.

William & Mary and UNCW have now met a total of 129 times in their storied history, but the Seahawks have dominated the all-time series and hold a 91-38 lead. Tune in on Saturday afternoon to see if the Tribe can back on track with a win and force a rubber match for game three.
