The Oklahoma State Cowboys (32-17) stayed hot, winning their seventh straight Big 12 Conference game and fourth in a row overall on Friday night. On Saturday night, the Cowboys can clinch a series win over the No. 16 Arizona State Sun Devils when they face off at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. With the win, Oklahoma State claimed sole possession of fifth place in the Big 12 at 15-10 while the Sun Devils fell to 16-9 and into a tie with UCF for third.

The Cowboys erupted for six runs in the top of the ninth, with Campbell Smithwick hitting the go-ahead three-run home run as Oklahoma State claimed a 9-6 victory over Arizona State on Friday night. The Cowboys fell behind 6-3 as ASU pushed across three runs in the bottom of the eighth before rallying. Garrett Shull hit a solo shot in the third inning and Mario Pesca worked around two hits in the bottom of the ninth to get the save.

Matt Polk’s drove in two runs with a single to right-center in the eighth as Arizona State took a 5-3 lead and Brody Briggs added an RBI single to push the lead to three runs before Oklahoma State’s big comeback. Polk also had an RBI knock in the first and Dominic Smaldino gave the Sun Devils their first lead with a two-run triple earlier in the inning. Cole Carlon struck out 11 in seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits while taking a no-decision.

Neither team announced starting pitchers heading into Saturday night.

Kollin Ritchie was 2-for-3 and leads the Cowboys with 26 home runs and 68 RBI. Arizona State’s Landon Hairston went 1-for-4 and comes into Saturday with team highs of 25 homers and 74 RBI from the leadoff spot.
