The Tigers earned a trip to the Super Regional by knocking off upset-minded Milwaukee. The Tigers had to do it the hard way, though, as they lost their first game to Milwaukee in the regional. They would outslug NC State in their first elimination game and then beat UCF to earn a trip to the regional championship. They would get their revenge on the Panthers as they would beat them 8-1 to force a do-or-die final game. They would make it two in a row over the Panthers, winning 8-3 on Monday night to take the regional crown.

The Rebels had a much easier road as they didn’t lose a game in winning the Lincoln Regional. They took down South Dakota State, Nebraska and Arizona State to earn a trip to the Super Regional.

They gave up just eight combined runs in their three wins in taking down the regional and earning a date with their SEC rival.

The Rebels did not play the Tigers during the regular season despite being in the same conference. They finished the season just 15-15 in the SEC and lost their first game of the conference tournament.
