Michigan takes on Maryland on Friday afternoon in the second semifinal of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament
The Michigan Wolverines battles the Maryland Terrapins on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament. The Wolverines fell to the Terrapins in their first meeting 2-0 back on October 20th. That loss snapped an 11-match winning streak for the Wolverines and was the first of three straight losses. The Wolverines righted the ship with a 3-0 win over No. 16 Iowa to end the regular season and then they slipped by Indiana on Thursday in the quarterfinals in overtime. The Wolverines had lost to the Hoosiers in the regular season, but they were able to avenge that loss and move in the conference tournament. Katie McLaughlin scored the first goal of the match in the first quarter, but they couldn’t score again in the regulation. The Hoosiers would tie the game with under two minutes left in the match. It spurred the Wolverines, though, as they dominated overtime to get the win. The Wolverines had just seven shots in regulation, but five in overtime and Esmee de Willigen finally scored the winner at 68:45.

The Terrapins also had a close match in the quarterfinals as they barely slipped by Iowa 1-0 on Thursday in penalty shots.
They had beat the Hawkeyes 5-0 earlier in the season, but couldn’t shake them on Thursday.
The Terrpains outshot Iowa 31-7 in the match and 14-0 in the fourth quarter and overtime, but couldn’t get a ball to the back of the net. They avoided the crushing upset by winning in penalty shots 3-2.
