Michael La Sasso from Ole Miss leads the field into the final round of the NCAA Men’s Individual National Championship.

The final round of the NCAA Men’s Individual Championship tees off with Ole Miss’s Michael La Sasso two strokes ahead of the field. Sasso is -11 through the first three rounds building his lead in the second round. Only three golfers in this tournament have finished each of the first three rounds with scores under par. Sasso is one, along with Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout (five under par) and Auburn’s Jackson Koivun (four under par). Also in contention heading into the final round of the individual tournament is Texas A&M’s Phichaksn Maichon at nine under par just two strokes behind the leader.

Sasso started off the tournament on fire with rounds of four under par and five under par. In the first two rounds, Sasso played the court better than everyone in the field with 13 birdies, an eagle and six bogeys. He continued the strong play with four birdies and two bogeys in the third round.

For Maichon, he got off to a red hot start with six birdies and a clean scorecard in the first round. He gave back the lead with just two birdies and two bogeys in the second round. In the third round he dominated the front nine again with five birdies and one bogey.

If either Sasso or Maichon hold on they will become the first ever individual men’s champion in college golf for the Rebels and Aggies respectively. History could be made here at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
