Cornell will look to earn its 14th straight win with a victory over Maryland in the NCAA Lacrosse Championship on Monday.

The stage is set for the NCAA Championship game and on Monday afternoon, the top-seeded Cornell Big Red will take on the second-seeded Maryland Terps at Gillette Stadium. The Terps came up short in the Big Ten Tournament, losing to top-seeded Ohio State in a 14-10 defeat, but the team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will look to cap off the season with a national title. On Saturday, the Terps made it past sixth-seeded Syracuse with a 14-8 win to earn a spot in the title game. Eric Spanos led the team offensively for the Terrapins with four goals and an assist. Will Schaller held top Syracuse attackman Joey Spallina to a single assist while Logan McNaney made 14 saves in between the pipes to anchor the defense.

The Big Red will look to cap off a near-perfect season with a national title on Monday. The team brings an overall record of 17-1 into Monday’s championship game, only losing to then-No. 9 Penn State back in March. Since then, Cornell has won 13 games in a row and hopes to make it 14 with a win in the title game. In a serendipitous moment, the Big Red defeated the Nittany Lions 11-9 in the semifinal game to play for an NCAA title. Michael Long led the offense with five points, scoring two goals and providing three assists. Hugh Kelleher added three goals and an assist from midfield, helping to pick up the slack as Penn State held Cornell’s record-setting attackman CJ Kirst to his first pointless game in his collegiate career. Wyatt Knust made nine saves in net to help Cornell earn the win.

Maryland and Cornell have met a total of 22 times in their history and the Terps hold a 16-5-1 lead in the all-time series. The last time the two teams met dates back to the 2022 season and the Terps earned a 9-7 victory on the road.
