With the two longtime conference foes looking to get back in the win column, No. 8 North Carolina hosts unranked Virginia in Chapel Hill on Saturday afternoon. After a one-goal loss on the road at Army in West Point last week, North Carolina dropped five spots in the most recent polls. However, the Tar Heels are still an impressive 7-2 overall with a 2-1 road record as they open ACC play. Virginia, on the other hand, has fallen out of the top-20 with an even 5-5 record with a 4-3 mark at home and a 0-1 pace in ACC play. Virginia has won six-straight games over North Carolina to improve to 24-10 in the series, earning a 14-6 victory over the Tar Heels last April.

Most recently, North Carolina fell in a highly competitive game to No. 6 Army in a 13-12 loss in West Point last Saturday. Owen Duffy led the Tar Heels with a six-point performance on three goals and three assists. Dominic Pietramala also netted a hat trick and Ryan levy added a pair of goals in the loss. 

As for Virginia, the Hoos fell to No. 8 Syracuse in a 12-10 loss at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville last week. The Orange scored the last two goals of the contest to earn a road win, with Virginia dropping its ACC opener for the first time since 2021. Midfielder Johnny Hackett scored a season-high two goals in the loss for Virginia.
