Alfredo Ortiz and No. 11 Cal will take the pitch against Colton Pleasants and No. 3 Duke on Sunday night.

No. 11-seeded Cal will head on the road in the quarterfinals of the ACC Men’s Soccer Tournament, taking on the No. 3-seeded Duke, on Sunday night. The Blue Devils ended their regular season with an 11-2-4 overall record and a 4-1-3 record against conference teams in the ACC. They were 6-1-2 at home and 5-0-2 on the road as well. They won their final six games of the season, beating Notre Dame on senior night. They matched up with 14-seeded Virginia Tech in the first round of the tournament.

It was a hard-fought game between both of these teams, going back and forth, and it was all netted even at the halftime break. However, Duke ended up taking the lead 1-0 in the 64th minute with a goal from Colton Pleasants. Drew Kerr and Trevor Burns assisted the goal. Ulfur Bjornsson added the insurance goal for 3-seeded Duke in the 81st minute with a goal assisted by Cameron Kerr.

The Golden Bears ended their season 7-7-2 overall and just 2-4-2 against conference teams. They were 3-3-2 at home and just 4-4 on the road this season. They won their last game at Stanford in the regular season before moving into the ACC Tournament. They matched up with the No. 6-seeded North Carolina and pulled off the upset.

UNC looked like it was going to take this game easily, scoring its first goal in the sixth minute of the game. However, after the halftime break and still down 1-0, Cal knotted it even with a goal from Malcolm Zalayet, assisted by Santiago Hopkins. Controversially, Cal would win the game on a penalty kick converted by Alfredo Ortiz in the 78th minute of the game.
