Louisville will look to pull off an upset over No. 12 Clemson on Friday when the teams meet in ACC soccer action.

On Friday night under the lights of Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium, Louisville will host No. 12 Clemson in an ACC matchup. The Cardinals come into the home match with the overall record of 5-3-3 and a conference record of 0-2-3 for a spot in ninth place in the conference standings. While the team is coming off of a 4-2 win against Lipscomb on Tuesday, the Cards have yet to earn that first win in ACC play. Against the Bison, Louisville was forced to play from behind after a goal from Lipscomb was scored in the 22nd minute. Eight minutes later, Josh Jones scored the equalizer with an assist from Leon Kondic. The Bison went back on top, but three unanswered goals from Louisville sealed the deal. Parker Forbes, Michael Lee and Chase Vasquez each scored their first goals of the season to get the team back in the win column. The Cardinals will look to carry that momentum into Friday night’s game in an attempt to pull off an upset.

The Tigers are currently in a tie for third place in the ACC standings with North Carolina, boasting an overall record of 6-2-2 and a conference record of 3-2 so far. Last Friday, Clemson hosts North Carolina and battled it out for a 3-2 win in front of a home crowd of 4,000 fans. UNC struck first, scoring 23 minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead. Less than ten minutes later, Joran Gerbet scored his first goal of the season to even the score. The teams played the next 52 minutes without scoring, but in the 84th minute of play, Gerbet found the back of the net for the second time to make it a 2-1 game. Two minutes later, the Tar Heels answered to make the teams even once again. With only four minute left in the game, Antonio Illuminato scored the game winning goal with an assist from Wahabu Musah. Joseph Andema made one save in net for Clemson to earn his sixth win of the year.

Clemson and Louisville met twice last season with the first match resulting in a 4-0 loss for the Cards in regular season play and the second resulting in a 5-1 defeat as the Tigers won to move on in the ACC tournament.
