This season, the team will look to finish higher in the standings by welcoming nearly a dozen new men to the roster from around the world in the offseason. The Terps will rely heavily on captain Alex Nitzl to control the middle of the field and distribute forward as he holds the defensive midfield position. After missing the first few matches of 2023 with injury, Nitzl will look to apply the leadership skills he acquired off the field to lead his team in 2024.

The Cavaliers will look to carry momentum from last season into their 2024 campaign. Finishing second in the ACC Coastal division behind Notre Dame, Virginia is determined to take the top spot despite being voted to finish sixth in the ACC Coaches’ preseason poll behind newcomer Stanford. With a fresh look to the conference which now features 15 teams including the three-time national champion Cardinal, the Cavaliers will have their work cut out for them, but it is a challenge they will face head on.

The team got off to a strong start this season with a 3-0 win over Rider in the season-opener, but a narrow 1-0 loss to Colgate was a set back as the team hoped to finish non-conference play with an undefeated record. On Thursday, Virginia bounced back, walloping visiting Saint Joseph’s with a 5-0 victory. Reese Miller netted a brace in the win while Hayes Wood, Max Talley and Nick Dang each scored one apiece. Virginia outshot Saint Joseph’s 19-3, showing strong offensive play that will serve them well this season.

Tune in Monday as the teams look to improve on their current records in preparation for their respective conference seasons that are right around the corner.
