Michigan State travels to Columbus on Tuesday for a game against No. 1 Ohio State in Big Ten action.

There are only two games remaining in the regular season for Michigan State and on Tuesday night, the stakes are high as the team takes on No. 1 Ohio State in Columbus. The Spartans are currently 5-6-3 overall with a Big Ten record of 4-3-1 for a spot in fourth place in the conference standings. Last week, the team hosted Michigan in the Battle for the Big Bear and retained the trophy with a scoreless draw. The match was truly a battle with both teams having quality opportunities, but the goalies on each side did a good job of keeping the net clear. MSU outshot Michigan 6-4 with four shots on frame, but could not finish. Zac Kelly made four saves in net to secure his sixth clean sheet of the year.

The Buckeyes have been hot all season and bring an overall record of 11-1-2 and a conference record of 6-1-1 into Tuesday’s matchup. The team has won two straight games with the most recent being a 2-0 victory over Northwestern on Friday. The teams were scoreless at the half, but David Ajagbe scored his fifth goal of the year in the 54th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead. With 22 minutes remaining in the match, Michael Adedokun added an insurance goal, his eighth of the 2024 campaign and the team was able to deny the Wildcats for the win. Max Trejo made one save in net to earn his eighth shutout of the year.

Michigan State leads the overall series with Ohio State, 29-27-3, but the Buckeyes have taken control of the series over the last several years. OSU has won the last four meetings and is undefeated at home this season so the odds are in the Buckeyes’ favor.
