Villanova and Drexel will meet for their final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday afternoon in Philadelphia.

A Philadelphia battle will take place on Tuesday afternoon as Villanova hosts Drexel for a non-conference rivalry game at Higgins Soccer Complex. The Wildcats have really struggled this season and are currently 1-9-5 overall and winless in the Big East with a record of 0-6-1. The team’s most recent time on the pitch resulted in a tough 1-0 loss to Providence College at home on Saturday. Sebastian Cutler DeJesus was peppered with 16 shots in net and made four saves, but Israel Dos Santos Neto snuck one by him for Providence. The Wildcats did not play poorly offensively, in fact, they managed 15 shots, but neither of their two on frame made it past Lukas Burns to tie things up. Villanova is in dead last in the Big East standings and will not make postseason play as a result.

The Dragons have had much more success this season and are in fourth place in the Colonial Athletic standings with a conference record of 4-2-1 and an overall record of 8-5-1. On Friday night, the team traveled south to take on Delaware, winning in a close 2-1 victory. The Blue Hens struck first, scoring in the first 20 minutes of play to take a 1-0 lead. The Dragons didn’t get on the board until the 66th minute when Dominick Bachstein netted his 10th goal of the season with an assist by Isaiah Whittaker-Francis. With two minutes left to play, Whittaker-Francis got his own chance and buried it to score the game winner. Alessandro Capogna saw three shots in net and made two saves to help his team earn the road win. While the team has a strong chance of making postseason play, a win in the final game against third place Charleston would definitely secure a spot in the conference tournament.

The last time Drexel and Villanova met was back in 2020 and the Dragons earns a 3-0 win on the road to improve to 5-4 in the all-time series with the Wildcats.
