On Friday night, Virginia will host one of the best teams in the country as No. 2 Stanford pays a visit to the Cavaliers in ACC action. Virginia has struggled a bit this season and brings an overall record of 2-2-3 into Friday night’s conference matchup. The Cavaliers are still in search of their first ACC win as they currently sit in 11th place in the standings with a record of 0-1-2. The team started off the season ranked No. 13, but have fallen out of the top 25. On Saturday against Cal, Virginia was able to earn one point with a 1-1 draw against the Golden Bears. The lone goal for the Cavs was scored by Kome Ubogu, just three minutes after Cal went up 1-0. Joey Batrouni made three saves in net after seeing 16 shots.

The Cardinal has been nearly unstoppable this season and currently boast an overall record of 7-1-1 with a conference record of 2-0-1. The team’s only loss this season came against a strong Denver squad, who was ranked 15th at the time, in a narrow 1-0 defeat. Since then, the team has been undefeated with the most recent game resulting in a 2-2 draw against Duke on Sunday. Stanford was forced to play from behind as Duke went up 2-0, but in the 75th minute, Fletcher Bank got his head on a cross from Will Cleary to cut the lead in half. With just two minutes remaining in regulation, Bank offered a ball to Zach Bohane who was able to poke the ball to the corner to tie the game at two apiece. Strong play in net from Rowan Schnebly allowed the team to stay undefeated in conference play with his three saves.

The latest matchup between these two teams dates back to 2016, with Stanford earning a 1-0 win in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, on its way to the College Cup title.
