The 2025 college softball season is underway and on Sunday evening, the No. 10 Oklahoma State Cowgirls will take on the No. 12 Alabama Crimson Tide in the Shriner’s Children’s Clearwater Invitational where the teams will play five games over four days in the Florida sunshine. The Cowgirls came into this weekend’s tournament with a record of 2-2 after playing in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge last weekend and have improved to 4-4 through Saturday’s games. The team’s latest challenge in the tournament came on Saturday afternoon against Auburn which resulted in a tough 2-1 loss. The Cowgirls got on the board in the bottom of the first after Megan Delgadillo was able to come home on a wild pitch, but the scoring stopped there. The Tigers scored runs in the third and fifth and Oklahoma State did not have an answer. Rylee Crandall took the loss in the circle, her second of the year, after pitching two innings and allowing one earned run.

The Crimson Tide came into this weekend’s tournament with a record of 4-1, but have picked up three losses so far in Florida. The team lost to San Diego State (4-1) and Liberty (7-6) on Friday before picking up a 9-5 win over Ohio State on Saturday. The high was brief, however, as the Crimson Tide dropped a 6-3 result to No. 4 UCLA to close out play on Saturday. Audrey Vandagriff and Kali Heivilin each homered against the Bruins to give the team a 2-0 lead before Vandagriff doubled to center field to take a 3-0 lead in the second. The Bruins were able to rally in the sixth, however, scoring six runs in a huge comeback. Jocelyn Briski took the loss in the circle to move to 1-3 on the season, although only one of UCLA’s runs was earned.

Oklahoma State and Alabama have only met twice in their history and the series is tied up at 1-1. The teams last met in 2020 and the game went in the Cowgirls’ favor with a 4-1 victory.
