Only two teams remain in the Big Ten Tournament as Michigan and UCLA play in the championship on Saturday evening.

On Saturday night, the unranked Michigan Wolverines will take on the No. 10 UCLA Bruins in the Big Ten Tournament championship at Bittinger Stadium. The eight-seeded Wolverines were an unlikely team to make it to the finals, but strong play throughout the tournament landed them there. The team opened play against ninth-seeded Wisconsin, winning 3-2 before beating top-seeded Oregon 5-0 in the quarterfinals. On Friday, Michigan took on Purdue and earned a 4-2 victory to play for a Big Ten title on Saturday. Lilly Vallimont emerged a hero in the third inning with a three-run homer to left field. The Boilermakers got two runs back in the fourth, but strong defensive play and dynamite pitching from Erin Hoehn in the final three innings allowed the Wolverines to pick up the semifinal victory.

As the No. 2 seed in tournament play, UCLA received a first round bye, opening the tournament with a 5-4 quarterfinal win against Indiana on Thursday to set the Bruins up for a semifinal game against third-seeded Nebraska. The Bruins jumped out to an early lead against the Cornhuskers after Jordan Woolery hit an RBI double to score Savannah Pola. In the fourth, Sofia Mujica extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-run shot to left center. Nebraska brought two runs home in the third to bring the game within one, but Kaniya Bragg hit a solo home run to left field in the sixth to add some insurance and Kaitlyn Terry closed out the game in the circle to help her team earn a championship spot in UCLA’s first year in the Big Ten. Terry pitched a complete game and struck out an impressive 13 batters in the win.

When Michigan and UCLA met during regular season play, the Bruins earned a sweep, outscoring the Wolverines 21-14. Tune in Saturday evening to see if the Wolverines can pull off the upset and take home the title.
