Big Ten Tournament play in college softball will begin on Wednesday for Illinois and Minnesota as the teams meet in Iowa City.
On Wednesday afternoon, 12th seed Illinois will take on fifth seed Minnesota in the first round of Big Ten Tournament play at Bob Pearl Field in Iowa City. The Fighting Illini finished the regular season with a conference record of 7-15 and an overall record of 21-30. The team dropped its final two games in conference play to Iowa with the finale being a close 6-5 defeat that spanned eight innings. Tori McQueen took the loss in the circle after pitching seven innings and giving up four runs on ten hits. The offense was powered by Paige Berkmeyer who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the loss.

The Gophers ended the regular season with a series against Nebraska, losing the first two games before picking up a 7-5 win in the finale to avoid the sweep. With the win, the team finished the season with a conference record of 13-10 and an overall record of 27-24. Sydney Strelow, Breezy Burnett, Jess Oakland and Delanie Cox each hit doubles to power the offense and boost the team to a win. Macy Richardson pitched a complete game to earn the win in the circle.
Minnesota and Illinois met back in March in a three-game series in Illinois and the Gophers pulled off a sweep, outscoring the Fighting Illini 35-5. The winner of this game will move on to play Nebraska in the quarterfinals.
