Mountain West play continues on Friday with a game between Boise State and UNLV in college softball action.

In the first of a three game series, the Boise State Broncos travel to Las Vegas to take on the UNLV Rebels at Eller Media Stadium for a Mountain West meeting. Boise State enters the game after going 1-2 against Nevada last weekend. The Broncos won the first game before Nevada took game two. In the rubber match, the Broncos struggled to find their footing, falling in a tough 17-3 loss. Sydney Groves homered and Ashley Hernandez hit a double to lead the Broncos’ offense, but it wasn’t enough. On the season, Sophia Knight is leading the Broncos with a .528 batting average while Hernandez leads with a 1.625 on-base percentage. In the circle, Abby Dowell leads with a 3.95 ERA and 1.54 WHIP.

UNLV comes into Friday’s game with an 18-14 record and a 2-4 conference record for a spot in seventh place in the Mountain West standings. Earlier this week, the Rebels took on Utah Tech, winning 3-2 and marking their second win in a row. In the win, Aki Charelle hit a home run as part of her two-hit game. Bri Williams also had multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Earning the win in the circle was Amelia Weber who pitched four innings and allowed one earned run. Yanina Sherwood earned the save, pitching three innings. 

The last meeting between the two programs took place in May of 2024 and saw the Broncos win 5-4. Since the teams’ first meeting in 2010, UNLV leads the series between the two programs 21-17.
