The Bowling Green Falcons will take a trip to Indiana on Wednesday for a non-conference game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Melissa Cook Stadium. The Falcons have struggled a bit this season and come into Wednesday’s mid-week matchup with an overall record of 13-24 and a conference record of 5-8 which has them sitting in seventh place in the MAC standings. The team has lost two games in a row after winning the opening game of its series with Northern Illinois before dropping the next two, the finale being a 4-0 loss. Morgan Beckham took the loss in the circle to drop to 2-9 on the season after pitching a complete game, giving up four hits and two earned runs while striking out two batters. Northern Illinois held Bowling Green to just three hits and the team was unable to bring any of those runners home.

The Fighting Irish are currently in 10th place in the ACC standings with a conference record of 6-9 and an overall record of 19-21-1. Over the weekend, the team took its first two games against Pitt before falling in a 5-1 defeat in the finale. Notre Dame bounced back in a big way, however, beating DePaul at home on Tuesday in an 8-0 run-rule victory in six innings. Addison Amaral powered the Fighting Irish offense as she went 1-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Amaral opened the scoring in the first inning with a three-run shot to left field and brought home the final run in the sixth after reaching on a fielder’s choice to score Jane Kronenberger. Shannon Becker picked up her fifth win of the season after throwing for three innings and striking out three batters. Kami Kamzik came in for relief and also struck out three in her two innings of work.

Bowling Green and Notre Dame have met a total of 18 times in their history and the Fighting Irish hold a commanding 14-4 lead in the all-time series. The teams met twice last year in South Bend in a double header. The first game resulted in a narrow 10-9 victory in eight innings for Notre Dame, but the second was a 4-0 shut out in the Irish’s favor.
