Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo tries to avoid losing four games in a row when they take on Long Beach State on Saturday afternoon. Cal Poly is just 2-15 on the road this season and 9-37 overall. This is the final series of the regular season for both teams. Things are going much better for Long Beach State as the school goes for its sixth win in a row. They are trying to improve to a game above .500 at home today. These two played a double header on Friday and it was the tale of two games. Long Beach state won both with the first one being an intense pitcher’s duel with LBSU prevailing 2-1 in 10 innings. Game 2 of the doubleheader only needed five innings as Long Beach dominated 11-0.

Neither team scored in Game 1 until the 10th inning. Cal Poly struck first in the top of the inning. Shannon Haddad improved to 9-3 on the season making her first start since March and going pitch-for-pitch against the Mustangs starter Kate Judy who unfortunately was tabbed with the loss. Haddad tied a season-high with eight strikeouts and she set a new-high for innings pitched. Kiara Blanchard hit a leadoff single in the 10th and eventually came home on another single from Sienna Erskine to get the first and only run for Cal Poly.

The bases were loaded for Long Beach when Priscilla Iniguez played hero grabbing a two-RBI single to walk off the game. Cal Poly couldn’t pull its offense together for Game 2 being limited to just four hits. Offense was no problem for Long Beach State ending the game early scoring nine runs in the first inning alone. Eryka Gonzales and Kate Barnett combined for the shutout as Long Beach should be the heavy favorites to sweep this series on Senior Day on Saturday.
