No. 9 Florida State opens play at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational Thursday against No. 16 Missouri in college softball.

After a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to open the season, No. 9 Florida State (4-1) returns to action on Thursday when it takes on No. 16 Missouri (4-2) at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Florida. The Tigers were in Clearwater last weekend as well, participating in the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic before visiting UCF on Tuesday night. The Seminoles have been a Super Regional team the last two seasons and was the runner-up at the Women’s College World Series in 2023. Missouri also reached the Super Regionals last season.

The Tigers won four of five last weekend at Clearwater before taking a 6-5, eight-inning loss at UCF on Tuesday. Missouri erupted for five runs in the top of the first before UCF chipped away at the advantage. Kara Daly’s three-run home run was the big blow of the opening frame. Abby Hay is 4-for-14 with three extra-base hits, including a home run, and five RBI, slashing .286/.524/1.167, while Daly leads the club with eight RBIs and Madison Walker has two homers. Cierra Harrison has worked 16 innings in three starts and is 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.

Florida State bounced back from a loss in its opener to finish 4-1 in Puerto Vallarta. Kennedy Harp came out of the chute red hot, going 10-for-15 with two doubles, three triples, a home run and 10 RBIs, while Katie Dack and Jaysoni Beachum each have two home runs. Jazzy Francik leads the staff with eight innings pitched, allowing one unearned run in three appearances and one start with a 1.13 WHIP and seven strikeouts.

The Seminoles have played in the last 24 NCAA tournaments, including all 15 since Lonni Alameda took over the program in 2009. Alameda is 766-215-2 with a national championship in 2018. The Tigers have 17 consecutive NCAA tourney bids, including five straight under coach Larissa Anderson, who has a 221-117 record in her seventh season.
