Super Regional play continues on Friday with game 2 between Texas Tech and Florida State in Tallahassee.

The Tallahassee Super Regional will continue on Friday as the Florida State Seminoles and the Texas Tech Red Raiders meet for the second time in as many days at JoAnne Graf Field at Seminole Softball Complex. The Seminoles will need to regroup for game 2 as they lost the opener on Thursday in a 3-0 defeat. The loss, which was credited to Ashtyn Danley, dropped the team to 49-11 overall which is still quite impressive. The Red Raiders held the Seminoles to just two hits which came from the bats of Katie Dack and Shelby Mckenzie, but the team failed to bring them home. Danley pitched 3.1 innings and gave up one earned run while striking out just one batter.

With Thursday’s win, the Red Raiders improved to 49-12 on the season and are now on an eight-game win streak. Nijaree Canady picked up her 29th win of the season after pitching a complete game and striking out four batters. Strong defense easily handled the two hits Canady gave up and prevented the Seminoles from scoring. Not only did Canady pitch a lights-out game, she also hit a solo home run to right field in the seventh to close out the scoring for the Red Raiders. Alana Johnson also hit a solo shot in the fourth inning. The team’s other run came from a stolen base in the first as Lauren Allred stole second and Mihyia Davis came home on a throwing error.

Florida State and Texas Tech have met a total of three times in their history and the Red Raiders currently hold a 2-1 lead in the series with Thursday’s win.
