The UCF Knights will take on the Florida State Seminoles on Sunday night in the Shriner’s Children’s Clearwater Invitational where the teams will play five games over four days in the Florida sunshine. The Knights came into Sunday with a record of 7-4 so far after losing to No. 5 Texas A&M (9-1) and Auburn (1-0) on Friday before beating Clemson 6-4 in extra innings on Saturday afternoon. Beth Damon led the UCF offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs. Izzy Mertes, Coco Jaimes and Aubrey Evans were responsible for the other three RBI and the win was credited to Kaitlyn Felton who improved to 3-0 on the season with seven innings pitched in which she gave up two earned runs and struck out one.

The Seminoles dropped their first game of the season to then-No. 4 Oklahoma State in a 9-6 defeat, but have won the last seven games to improve to 7-1 on the season. In the tournament thus far, the team has beaten No. 16 Missouri 9-1 in five innings and Ohio State, also 9-1 in five innings. On Saturday evening, the team played Wichita State and fell behind, but pulled off an incredible comeback. The game was 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth in the Shockers’ favor, but the Seminoles rallied to score seven runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to end the game at 15-5 when the inning concluded. Isa Torres led the Florida State offense, going 2-for-5 with four RBI. She finishing the game off with a walk off grand slam to right center. Jazzy Francik took the win in the circle to improve to 2-0 on the season with two innings of work in which she struck out three batters.

Florida State and UCF have met a total of 16 times in their history and the Seminoles hold a 15-1 lead in the series. The teams’ last meeting took place last season and Florida State earned a 5-1 victory.
