UNC welcomes Georgia Tech to Chapel Hill on Friday to kick off the teams’ ACC series in college softball action.

In a Atlantic Coast Conference matchup, the North Carolina Tar Heels will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Anderson Softball Stadium. The Yellow Jackets are 25-15 overall with a 9-6 conference record, putting them in sixth place in the ACC standings. Earlier in the week, Georgia Tech traveled to Alabama to play Jacksonville State, winning in a 6-3 victory. In the win, Eliana Gottlieb finished with four RBI, three of which came from a three-run homer in the first inning. Gracyn Tucker and Ella Edgmon were each responsible for one RBI, as well. Addison Leschber ended the game with an impressive five hits to help power the offense. Starting in the circle for the Yellow Jackets was Sophia Voyles with 4.0 innings pitched, allowing two hits and giving up one earned run while striking out four batters.

The Tar Heels are sitting just behind the Yellow Jackets in the ACC standings with an overall record of 30-12 and a conference record of 8-7. The team’s latest game was played against East Carolina on Wednesday and the Tar Heels picked up a 7-6 win at home. East Carolina took the lead in the fifth inning with four runs, but UNC was able to close the gap by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rayna Blackwell hit a double, scoring Ella Fox and Alex Coleman followed with a single, scoring Grace Jackson. In the seventh inning, the Tar Heels scored two more to tie the game as Skylar Young came home on an error and Sanaa Thompson scored on a wild pitch. In the eighth, Thompson doubled to score Reece Outlaw and Kat Rodriguez. A single from Rodriguez in the ninth secured the win as Grace Jackson was plated. Jenna Raye Dark earned the win pitching 4.2 innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs and throwing out three batters. 

UNC and Georgia Tech have met a total of 88 times in their storied history and the Tar Heels currently hold a 48-40 lead in the all-time series. When the teams met last year in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels won two out of the three games to secure the series victory, outscoring Georgia Tech 18-11.
