UNC will take on newly ranked Liberty on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup at home in college softball action.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will welcome the newly ranked No. 24 Liberty Flames to Chapel Hill on Wednesday night for a non-conference game. The Tar Heels are currently 23-6 overall and 4-2 in ACC play for a spot in fifth place in the conference standings. Over the weekend, the team took on Clemson, dropping the first game 4-1 before beating the Tigers 6-3 in the second. Clemson took a 10-2 win in the rubber match to secure the series victory. Carlie Myrtle was responsible for both of the team’s runs in the finale with a solo shot to left center in the second and an RBI double in the third. Nikki Harris took the loss in the circle, her first of the season, after giving up five earned runs in three innings.

The Flames moved into the national rankings last week at No. 23, but dropped to No. 24 this week after losing its last two games. The team is now 23-6 overall and 5-0 in conference play for a spot at the top of the Conference USA standings. Over the weekend, the Flames traveled to Durham to take on No. 13 Duke in a doubleheader, falling 7-3 in the first game and 3-2 in the second. Savannah Woodard and Rachel Roupe each brought one run in for Liberty, both hitting solo home runs. Kaylan Yoder pitched the full game for the Flames and struck out four batters, but gave up three earned runs to be credited with the loss, dropping to 4-2.

UNC and Liberty have met a total of 17 times in their history and the Tar Heels hold a 14-3 lead in the all-time series. The teams met once last season and the Tar Heels picked up a 2-1 victory on the road.
