Michigan and Oregon will battle it out for the chance to hold the lone spot in third place in the Big Ten standings in college softball.

The Michigan Wolverines will travel west this weekend for a three-game Big Ten series with the Oregon Ducks at Jane Sanders Stadium beginning on Friday night. The Wolverines bring a two-game win streak into the series opener after beating Michigan State 15-3 in five innings on Saturday in the first game of a double-header and 9-8 in extra innings to secure the series win in the rubber match. The team improved to 27-9 overall and 6-1 in conference play with its only Big Ten loss coming against the Spartans in the first game of last weekend’s series. Erin Hoehn improved to 13-2 on the season after going five innings and striking out three in the series finale against MSU. Jenissa Conway powered the Wolverines, going 4-for-5 at the plate with an impressive six RBI.

The Ducks are currently on a six-game win streak which brings their overall record to 32-3 and their conference record to 6-1. On Wednesday, the team hosted in-state rival Oregon State in Corvallis and earned a 9-1 victory. Elise Sokolsky went the full seven innings for the Ducks and held the Beavers to just one hit as she struck out six batters. Stefini Ma’ake led the team offensively, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI after firing a solo shot to left center in the second and a two-run shot to left field in the fourth. The freshman has been a stellar addition to the Ducks’ roster this season and currently boasts a slugging percentage of .757 which is the second highest on the team.

Oregon and Michigan have met three times in their history and the Ducks hold a narrow 2-1 lead in the series. The last meeting between the teams took place back in 2013 and resulted in a 13-4 win for Oregon.
