Oklahoma goes for the series win when it hosts Mississippi State for Game 2 of this series on Saturday afternoon. The No. 2 Sooners won the opener on Friday against the No. 15 Bulldogs 4-0 in this series against top 25 SEC opponents. Oklahoma is 37-5 overall and is a staggering 16-2 at home and an 11-5 conference record. The Sooners showed some grit in that opener against MSU to avoid losing three in a row. The Sooners lost back-to-back games against Alabama in its previous series. It was the first time in the season the Sooners lost consecutive games and lost a series the entire year. The Bulldogs are coming off a series win against Missouri. Mississippi State is 33-12 overall and 7-4 on the road with a 9-7 conference record.

The Sooners scored two runs in each of the first two innings of the opener to collect all the run support they’d need for starter Sam Landry. She pitched a complete-game shutout and only gave up three hits the whole game. Landry didn’t give up a hit over the last three innings and earned her 11th complete game of the season. Ella Parker drove in the first two runs of the game with an RBI-double and then Hannah Coor hit a two-run bomb in the second to effectively put the game away.

The Bulldogs did have a standout on offense in Morgan Stiles who reached base twice and made her debut at first base. Senior Jessie Blaine also reached on a single and a walk but the Bulldogs couldn’t overcome leaving a runner on base in every inning after the second. They’ll need to capitalize at every opportunity to pull off an upset in this series.
