Duke and Missouri meet on the 2nd day of the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida

No. 7 Duke (2-0) and Missouri (2-0) face off for the first of two games for each team on Saturday at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic at the Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Florida. The game is a rematch of a tight super regional played at the Mizzou Softball Stadium in May, where the Blue Devils advanced to its first Women’s College World Series by eliminating the Tigers in the decisive third game. It was the fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance for Duke, which launched its program in 2018. Missouri has played in 17 straight NCAA tourneys, last reaching the WCWS in 2011.

The Blue Devils opened with a pair of shutout victories on Friday, beating Florida State 7-0 and stopping No. 24 Mississippi State 8-0 in five innings via the run rule. Aminah Vega was 4-for-6 in the two games with five RBI while Kairi Rodriguez went 4-for-7 with a home run and four RBI. Cassidy Curd threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts against the Seminoles while Dani Drogemuller allowed four hits in her blanking of the Bulldogs.

The Tigers beat Marshall 9-1 in five innings before coming back to blank No. 20 Northwestern 3-0. Julia Crenshaw was 3-for-5 with three walks in the two games, scoring four runs while homering and driving in two. Abby Hay doubled twice in five at-bats with four RBI. Cierra Harrison threw a three-hitter with eight Ks against the Wildcats while Marissa McCann allowed five hits in the win over the Thundering Herd.

Last year’s super regional was the first meeting between Duke and Missouri. Marissa Young is 267-106 in her eight season coaching the Blue Devils while Larissa Anderson is 219-115 in her seventh year with the Tigers.
