Virginia and Tennessee will square-off Sunday afternoon in the Knoxville Regional.
On Sunday afternoon, No. 3 Tennessee will look to win the Knoxville Regional with a victory over Virginia as the teams meet at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The Cavaliers come into Sunday’s game with an overall record of 34-19 and finished conference play with a record of 15-9. The team opened regionals with a 7-0 win over No. 24 Miami (Ohio) before being blanked by Tennessee yesterday in a 12-0 defeat in just five innings. Mikayla Houge took the loss on the mound, giving up six earned runs in 2.1 innings of work while striking out one batter and walking three. Offensively, the Cavaliers were only able to muster three hits which came from the bats of Bella Cabral, Abby Weaver and Sarah Coon. The team will need to find another gear on Sunday if it hopes to force a third game for the regional title.

The Volunteers have been a force to be reckoned with for the entire season and come into Sunday’s game with an overall record of 42-10. Tennessee opened regional play with a 3-0 win over Dayton on Friday before yesterday’s 12-0 mercy over Virginia. Strong pitching has only allowed five hits between the two games with Karlyn Pickens earning the win on Friday before Payton Gottshall earned the win yesterday. Rylie West powered the offense in Saturday’s big win with four RBI from a sacrifice fly in the second and a three-run shot to center field in the third. Sophia Nugent was right behind her with three RBI after blasting her own three-run homer in the third inning, as well.
