No. 12 Virginia Tech (35-5) pushed its winning streak to 16 games with a doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame (19-23-1) and on Sunday night, the Hokies can polish off a three-game sweep of the Fighting Irish at Tech Softball Park in Blacksburg, Virginia. With the two wins, Virginia Tech moved to 13-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and took a half-game lead over Florida State. Notre Dame fell to 6-11 and 10th place in the conference. The Hokies have played in the last five NCAA tournaments with their lone Women’s College World Series trip in 2008. The Irish missed the tourney last season, ending a string of 24 consecutive appearances.

Emma Lemley improved to 15-3 while holding Notre Dame to just three hits in a 5-0 win in the opener on Saturday. Jordan Lynch had three RBI and Rachel Castine smacked a two-run homer in the sixth. In the nightcap, Kylie Aldridge walked it off with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth for a 12-4 run-rule victory. Aldridge drove in three runs and Cori McMillan hit a two-run home run in the second.

Jane Kronenberger had two of the Fighting Irish’s three hits in the first game and Anna Holloway hit a solo homer in the nightcap while Caroline O’Brien went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI. Addison Amaral came into the weekend slashing .388/.500/.647 with team-highs of seven home runs and 36 RBI while Emily Tran has been successful on all 10 stolen-base attempts. Micaela Kastor has 83 strikeouts in 83 innings pitched.

McMillan powers the Hokies attack with a .458/.564/.992 slash line to go with 18 home runs and 45 RBI. Bre Peck also has 45 RBI. Lemley has a 1.91 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 117 innings with 146 punchouts.
