Clemson looks to salvage a win in Clearwater as it faces Ohio State on Sunday at the Shriners Children’s Invitational

Clemson (3-6) dropped its only game on Saturday to fall to 0-4 at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, Florida, and takes on Ohio State (5-2) in its final game at the event on Sunday morning. The Buckeyes are 1-2 in Clearwater and will play UCF later on Sunday. The Tigers are in just their sixth season of competition, launching their program in 2020, and have played in the last four NCAA tournaments. Ohio State’s last NCAA tourney bid was in 2022.

The Buckeyes ran out of outs in a 9-5 loss to No. 12 Alabama on Saturday. They took an early 1-0 lead before the Crimson Tide scored single runs in each of their first three innings before plating four in the fourth to break the game open. Hadley Parisien hit the second pitch of the game for a home run. Jasmyn Burns leads the team with two homers and eight RBI and is 11-for-22 so far while Kami Kortokrax is 12-for-24 with six runs scored. Lorin Boutte fell to 3-2 on Saturday in five appearances and has a 4.85 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 17.1 innings with 27 strikeouts.

Clemson fought back to tie their game with UCF on Saturday with a three-run fifth inning but lost 6-4 in eight innings. Julia Knowler was 3-for-3 with an RBI in the loss. Knowler and Macey Cintron have three home runs each so far, with Cintron’s 10 RBI topping the team. Alex Brown is 13-for-33 with a team-high eight runs scored. Brooke McCubbin, who fell to 1-2 on Saturday, has worked in six games with a 4.70 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 22.1 innings.

Kirin Kumar is in her first season coaching at Ohio State after four years at Miami (Ohio), where the RedHawks went to the NCAA tournament each season. John Rittman is 192-70 in his sixth season leading the Tigers, with Super Regional trips in 2022 and 2023.
