Oklahoma will look to extend its win streak to five games on Saturday with a road win against Alabama in the teams’ SEC series opener.

The No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners will hit the road this weekend for an SEC series against the No. 22 Alabama Crimson Tide at Rhoads Stadium. The Crimson Tide comes into Saturday’s opener with an overall record of 28-15 and a conference record of 5-7 for a spot in 11th place in the SEC standings. Last weekend, the team traveled to Baton Rouge to take on No. 7 LSU, falling in the first two games before earning an 8-5 win in the finale to avoid the sweep. Catelyn Riley earned the win in the circle to improve to 9-1 on the season after throwing for 4.2 innings and striking out one batter while only giving up one earned run. Lauren Johnson propelled the offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI after hitting two RBI singles and a two-run double. Audrey Vandagriff added three runs to the scoreboard, as well, with a three-run shot to right center in the seventh.

The Sooners have been on a hot streak recently and improved to 35-3 overall and 9-3 in conference play over the last week on the diamond. Last weekend, the team hosted St. Thomas and UCF for the Okana Invitational, beating both teams in one game before the second game against UCF was canceled. In a mid-week matchup, the Sooners traveled to take on No. 17 Oklahoma State, winning 11-3 in just five innings to extend their win streak to four games. The Cowgirls jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the third, but the Sooners went on to score 11 unanswered runs powered by Maya Bland and Kasidi Pickering who each brought home three runs. Sam Landry pitched a complete game and struck out four batters while only giving up five hits and one earned run.

Oklahoma and Alabama have now met a total of 14 times and the Sooners hold a narrow 8-6 advantage in the all-time series. The last meetings between the teams took place back in 2019 and the Sooners won the first two games before the Crimson Tide earned the win in the finale.
