Oklahoma and Alabama wrap up an SEC series in Tuscaloosa on Monday evening with a rubber match in college softball action.

A top 25 matchup will take place on Monday as No. 22 Alabama hosts No. 2 Oklahoma at Rhoads Stadium for the final game of their SEC series. The Sooners took game one in a 5-1 victory on Saturday, but the Crimson Tide bounced back to earn a 6-1 victory in game two to force a rubber match on Monday. With Sunday’s loss, the Sooners dropped to 36-4 on the season with an SEC record of 10-4 which has the team sitting in third place in the standings. Kierston Deal suffered her first loss of the season in the circle after giving up three earned runs in 2.1 innings of work and striking out two batters to drop to 8-1. The team’s lone run came from the bat of Sydney Barker in the seventh with a solo shot to left center, but with the team already trailing by six, it wasn’t enough to make a comeback.

Alabama is now sitting in 11th place in the SEC standings with a conference record of 6-8 and an overall record of 29-16. While the team struggled to get the bats going on Saturday, Sunday did not prove to be an issue as the Crimson Tide finished with seven hits on the day while holding the Sooners to just two. Abby Duchscherer led the team offensively with two RBI collected from a two-run shot in the fifth while Lauren Johnson, Kristen White, Audrey Vandagriff and Kali Heivilin each brought home a single run, as well. Heivilin was the only other ‘Bama hitter to smash an extra-base hit with a homer down the left field line in the third. Jocelyn Briski pitched a stellar game for the Crimson Tide, giving up just two hits and one earned run while striking out two batters.

Oklahoma and Alabama have now met a total of 16 times in their history and the Crimson Tide holds a narrow 9-7 lead in the all-time series. Tune in Monday night to see which of these teams can earn the win in the rubber match and move up in the SEC standings.
