Regular season play comes to a close on Saturday for the Sooners and Gators as they meet in Gainesville to conclude their final SEC series.

The No. 7 Florida Gators and the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners will meet on Saturday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium to close out regular season play with a rubber match before postseason begins next week. The Gators are 42-13 overall this season with a conference record of 13-10 which has them sitting in sixth place in the SEC standings. The team opened the series against Oklahoma with a 6-5 defeat in extra innings before bouncing back to win 9-4 on Friday night. Taylor Shumaker powered the Florida offense with a grand slam in the second inning. Reagan Walsh and Mia Williams each brought in two runs, as well, both hitting home runs in addition to Ava Brown. Kara Hammock improved to 8-1 on the season with four innings of work in which she struck out two.

The Sooners are not only sitting atop the SEC standings with a conference record of 17-6 and an overall record of 43-6, but atop the national rankings, as well. Prior to Friday night’s loss, the team has won seven straight games and will look to get back on track on Saturday with a win in the rubber match. Friday night’s loss as credited to Kierston Deal after she pitched 1.2 innings and gave up five earned runs. Isabella Smith came in to relieve Deal, but she gave up four earned runs during her 2.2 innings of work. Gabbie Garcia opened the scoring for the Sooners with an RBI groundout in the first before Florida posted five runs. Ella Parker brought the game within one with a three-run homer in the fifth, but that’s where the scoring stopped for Oklahoma.

Oklahoma and Florida have now met a total of 12 times in their history and the Sooners hold a 9-3 lead in the all-time series. Tune in Saturday evening to see which team is able to win the rubber match to close the regular season on a high note.
