A Big Ten series begins on Friday for Oregon and Rutgers in New Jersey as college softball continues.

A Big Ten matchup will see the No. 6 Oregon Ducks travel to the east coast to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Rutgers Softball Complex in Piscataway, New Jersey. This is the first meeting between the programs since 2018 as the Ducks just joined the Big Ten this year. The Ducks are top ten in the nation thanks in part to pitcher Lyndsey Grein’s 1.03 ERA and 16 wins in the circle. As a whole, the pitching staff has a 1.72 ERA. The offense for the Ducks has been propelled by their base stealing ability with 108 steals on the season so far. The Ducks’ most recent game was played against Illinois and resulted in a 4-3 victory leaving Oregon with a 29-3 overall record and a 4-1 Big Ten record. Rylee McCoy started the scoring early with a single, scoring Paige Sinicki in the bottom of the first. In the third, Sinicki tripled, scoring Kai Luschar and tying the game at 2 runs a piece. Braiesey Rosa singled in the fourth to bring home Elise Kresho before hitting a walk-off in the seventh to win it.

The Scarlet Knights come into the two-game series with an overall record of 16-19 and a conference record of 1-4 so far which puts the team just out of last place in the Big Ten standings. The team’s most recent games were played against Washington. The series was supposed to be three games, but with the first being canceled, it dropped down to two in which the Huskies won both in five innings. The final game in the series ended up being a tough 12-0 defeat. Jillian Anderson is leading the Scarlet Knights with a .371 batting average, with 17 runs and 33 hits. In the circle, Ella Harrison leads with a 2.03 ERA and 10-10 win-loss record.

Oregon and Rutgers have only met twice in their history and the Ducks have won both games with the most recent being a 10-0 win in five innings back in 2018.
