San Diego State and Arizona State will both head to Los Angeles, California, on Friday afternoon to face off in a college softball game in the Los Angeles Regional on the road to the Women’s College World Series. The winner of the Los Angeles Regional will take on the winner of the Columbia Regional in the Super Regionals. The No. 9-ranked UCLA is the team to beat in this regional. The Aztecs will head into this regional with a 37-17 record overall and a 16-6 record against teams in the Mountain West Conference at the end of the season.

San Diego State won the Mountain West tournament after coming out of the losers’ bracket. They lost 3-0 to Fresno State in the first game before beating Boise State 6-1 and Nevada 5-4 in the next two games. Facing off against Fresno State in the championship, they won back-to-back games in a doubleheader to win.
The Sun Devils are 35-19 overall this season, heading into the postseason. They are also 14-11 against teams in the Big 12 Conference. They opened up the Big 12 Tournament with a game on the road against Oklahoma State. After winning that game 2-1, they lost to Texas Tech on the road massively, 18-0.
Ashleigh Mejia has been the best at the plate for Arizona State this season. She is batting .270 with 13 home runs to lead the team and 44 RBIs in 148 at-bats. On the opposite side, Shannon Cunningham has been hot at-bat. She is hitting .260 in 2025 with a team-high eight home runs and 35 RBIs with 33 hits in 127 at-bats.
