A top 20 matchup will take place on Tuesday night as Clemson and South Carolina meet in a non-conference matchup in college softball action.

The No. 11 South Carolina Gamecocks will travel to take on the No. 21 Clemson Tigers on Tuesday night in a mid-week matchup at McWhorter Stadium. The Gamecocks come into the road game with an overall record of 32-10 and a conference record of 7-8 for a spot in ninth place in the SEC standings. Over the weekend, the team took on No. 12 Arkansas and dropped two of the three games with the finale being a close 5-4 defeat. Ella Chancey led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI while Lexi Winters added the team’s only other earned run in the loss. Chancey finished the game with a two-run homer and an RBI single while Winters’ RBI came from a fielder’s choice. Sam Gress took the loss in the circle to drop to 8-6 on the season after giving up two earned runs in 3.1 innings of work.

The Tigers come into Tuesday’s non-conference matchup with an overall record of 34-11 and a conference record of 14-4, good for a third place spot in the ACC standings. The team is on a five-game win streak with the most recent being an 8-3 win over NC State on Sunday. The Tigers ended up outscoring the Wolf Pack 33-13 over the weekend with the final win being credited to Reese Basinger in the circle after she threw for five innings in the start and struck out four batters while giving up three earned runs. Taylor Pipkins led the Tigers offensively with two RBI earned from a sac fly in the second and a solo home run to left field in the fourth. Alex Brown and Kylee Johnson also smashed the ball over the fence to help power the offense.

Clemson and South Carolina have played a total of eight times in their history and the Tigers hold a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series. The last meeting between Clemson and South Carolina took place earlier this season and resulted in a 6-0 win for South Carolina.
