Texas will look to extend its win streak to eight games on Saturday with a win over Tennessee in front of a home crowd.

A top five matchup will take place on Saturday evening between the No. 5 Tennessee Lady Vols and the No. 1 Texas Longhorns as the teams meet for game two of their SEC series at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The series opener on Friday night remained a close game, but the Longhorns pulled it out with a 3-0 victory, dropping the Lady Vols’ overall record to 32-9 and their conference record to 7-6, putting the team in eighth place in a very strong conference. Erin Nuwer took the loss in the circle on Friday night after giving up all three earned runs in two innings of work. Texas held Tennessee to just two hits which came from the bats of Kinsey Fiedler and Taylor Pannell.

With Texas’ success this season, the team is sitting at the top of both the SEC leaderboard and the nation with a conference record of 11-2 and an overall record of 39-3. All three of the team’s losses have come against ranked opponents. The Longhorns have won their last seven games, however, and will look to improve upon that on Saturday. Mia Scott and Reese Atwood brought runs home for the Longhorns on Friday night against the Lady Vols, each hitting RBI singles for two earned runs while the third run was unearned on Scott’s single. Teagan Kavan continues to impress in the circle and pitched a complete game on Friday to improve to 18-2 on the year with eight strikeouts to hold Tennessee to just two hits. She only walked five batters, as well.

Texas and Tennessee have now met a total of 12 times in their history and the Longhorns hold a slight 7-5 advantage in the all-time series. With the strength of both programs, Saturday’s game could go either way. Tune in to watch the best of the best in college softball.
