The Tennessee Volunteers battle the Miami (OH) Redhawks in the first round of its regional on Friday afternoon. The Volunteers come into the regional on a two-game losing streak, but they still earned the seventh overall seed in the tournament. The Volunteers lost two of three to Texas A&M to end the regular season and then were upset by Arkansas in their first game of the SEC Tournament. Despite the recent struggles the Volunteers still sit at 40-14 on the season. They wrapped up SEC play at 15-9, but couldn’t get anything going in the tournament. The Volunteers have been led by Taylor Pannell at the plate as she had a team-high .413 batting average. She also led the team in doubles with 11, home runs with 15 and RBI with 61.

The Redhawks will need to find a way to shut Pannell down if they want any shot at upsetting the Volunteers.
The Redhawks earned a berth into the regional thanks to winnng the MAC Tournament. It wasn’t easy, though, as they had to come out of the consolation bracket after losing to Ohio in their second game.
They would beat Ball State 8-0 in five innings and then would get their revenge with back-to-back wins over Ohio to claim the championship.
They have now won nine of their last 10 games and they sit at 35-24 on the season. They finished 20-7 in the MAC this season.
