A highly-anticipated SEC matchup will take place on Saturday afternoon as the No. 3 Florida Gators host the No. 2 Texas Longhorns for the first of a three-game SEC series at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The Gators have gotten off to a strong start this season with a record of 27-2 so far and are currently 2-1 in conference play. The team took on No. 4 Texas A&M last weekend, winning two of the three to take the series before beating UCF in a 3-0 shutout on Wednesday in non-conference play. Kara Hammock improved to 7-0 on the season after pitching 6.2 innings and striking out four batters.

The Longhorns only have one loss under their belts this season and it came against No. 18 Stanford back in the beginning of the season. The team has since won 15 games straight with the most recent being a 4-2 win over Ohio State on Monday to improve to 26-1 overall. Mia Scott led the Texas offense against the Buckeyes, going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI while Ashton Maloney brought the team’s other run in with a double in the second. Teagan Kavan earned the win in the circle, throwing for 6.1 innings and striking out an impressive 11 batters before Citlaly Gutierrez came in to earn her third save of the season.

Texas and Florida have met a total of 10 times in their history and the Longhorns hold a slight 6-4 edge in the all-time series. Texas and Florida met once last season and the Longhorns won handily in a 10-0, five-inning victory.
