The Gators have an uphill battle today, taking a 2-0 deficit in the series and trying desperately to avoid the sweep today. They came into today’s game with a 27-2 record overall, having already broken conference play open with a three-game series against Texas A&M last weekend, winning two games to one. Their other loss came against the ACC’s Duke 8-1.
The first game of the series went in favor of Texas by a score of 7-2. Texas went up 1-0 in the second inning before blowing the game wide open in the fourth inning taking a 6-0 lead. Florida bounced back in the bottom of the same inning, but they weren’t able to salvage anything else. Texas’ Reese Atwood finished with a home run and three RBIs to lead the team.
In a first game that saw just nine runs, the second game saw a total of 20 runs. Texas still came out on top 13-7, but Florida put up more of a fight. By the end of the fourth inning, it was 7-6 Florida, UF just allowed Texas to put up six runs in the sixth inning, and it couldn’t find a way to score. Florida’s Jocelyn Erickson had three RBIs on 2-for-3 at the plate yesterday.
