Missouri will look to bounce back from a tough loss on Saturday and pull off an upset against Texas in softball action.

The Missouri Tigers host the No. 1 Texas Longhorns for a pair of games on Sunday at Mizzou Softball Stadium after Mother Nature altered the weekend’s plans. The teams were slated to play a three-game series beginning on Friday and concluding Sunday, but the schedule had to be changed twice to accommodate for inclement weather. As a result, the teams played on game on Saturday which resulted in a 8-0 run-rule win for the Longhorns on Saturday and the series will wrap up with a double-header on Sunday. With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 20-19 overall with a conference record of 2-8, putting them just out of last place in the SEC standings. Marissa McCann took the loss in the circle, dropping to 7-8 on the season, after giving up six earned runs in four innings. Nathalie Touchet came in for relief, but gave up another two runs in just one inning.

With Saturday’s win, the Longhorns have now won three in a row and improved to 35-3 on the season and 8-2 in conference play which puts them in the top spot in the SEC standings. Reese Atwood powered the Texas offense, going 2-for-2 with three RBI after flying out in the first, hitting a solo shot in the third and an RBI single in the fifth. Joley Mitchell also had three RBI on the day after hammering a three-run homer to left field in the first inning to give the Longhorns a 4-0 lead. Teagan Kavan earned the win in the circle to improve to 16-2 on the year after striking out 11 batters and giving up zero hits in the team’s victory.

Texas and Missouri have met a total of 33 times in their history and the Longhorns hold a narrow 17-16 lead in the all-time series. Tune in on Sunday afternoon to see if the Tigers can even the series with an upset over the top-ranked Longhorns in game one of their double-header.
