Texas and Ohio State wrap up their slates at the Ohio State Tournament on Monday evening

Texas (24-1 entering Monday), ranked No. 2 when it arrived for the Ohio State Tournament, ran its winning streak to 13 games with a trio of run-rule wins to open the event. On Monday, the Longhorns wrap up their stay at Buckeye Field in Columbus against host Ohio State (17-4-1), which has won six straight after going 4-0 thus far in the tourney. Texas will play Dayton earlier Monday before taking on the Buckeyes. The Longhorns have played in 19 straight NCAA tournaments and were the runner-up in last season’s Women’s College World Series. Ohio State’s last NCAA tourney appearance was in 2022.

Texas banged out seven runs in the second inning on Sunday in a 15-1 run-rule win over Kent State that was called after five innings. Joley Mitchell and Reese Atwood hit back-to-back homers during the big second inning and Katie Cimusz capped the frame with a two-run shot. Teagan Kavan struck out seven in three shutout innings, allowing only two hits.

Lorin Boutte opened Sunday’s game with three perfect innings, fanning four, and the Buckeyes blanked Oakland 10-0 in five innings. Hadley Parisien and Sami Bewick belted a two-run homers while Jasmyn Burns and Morgan Frye also went deep.

Atwood is slashing .408/.538/1.000 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI for the Longhorns, while Kayden Henry is at .484/.551/.656 with 16 steals in as many attempts. Katie Stewart has a team-high 44 RBI. For Ohio State, Burns has a slash line of .541/.589/1.131 and shares the team lead with eight home runs. Parisien and Reagan Milliken also have eight long bombs, with Millken driving in a team-high 35 runs.

Kavan is 8-1 in 11 appearances and nine starts for Texas, posting a 1.81 ERA and 0.91 WHIP with 79 Ks in 58 innings. Boutte is 9-2 in 13 games, eight of them starts, with a 2.41 ERA and 0.93 win and 63 punchouts in 49.1 innings.
