No. 4 Oklahoma (39-5), the four-time defending Women’s College World Series champions, take a three-game winning streak into this weekend’s showdown at Love’s Field in Norman against visiting No. 3 Texas (42-6). The series opens on Friday night. Once the biggest rivalry in the Big 12 Conference, the Sooners and Longhorns meet for the first time as Southeastern Conference foes. The teams are locked in a tie for second place in the SEC at 13-5, 0.5 games behind Texas A&M and a game ahead of Tennessee — all ranked in the Top 4 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll this week.

Texas came to the Sooner State a bit early, taking a 1-0 decision at Oklahoma State on Wednesday. Citlaly Gutierrez worked six shutout innings before Teagan Kavan came on to get the final three outs. Mia Scott singled home Kayden Henry in the top of the fifth for the game’s lone run. Reese Atwood slashes .415/.529/.896 and leads the team with 16 home runs, while Katie Stewart had 63 RBIs and Henry boasts 26 stolen bases in 27 attempts.

Oklahoma comes off a three-game sweep over then-No. 15 Mississippi State last weekend. Kasidi Pickering comes in slashing .431/.579/.879 with 13 homers and 43 RBIs, sharing the team lead in both categories with Nelly McEnroe-Marinas. Gabbie Garcia has blasted 12 home runs this season and Abigale Dayton leads the club with 12 stolen bags.

Sam Landry (15-3) is the Sooners’ ace, coming into the weekend with a 1.89 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 118.2 innings with 126 strikeouts. Kavan (20-3) leads the Longhorns, posting a 1.63 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 137.1 innings while fanning 175.
