They hosted a Super Regional against Clemson and lost the first game, 7-4. However, they bounced back against the Tigers, winning 7-5 and 6-5 in the ensuing games. They opened up the WCWS with a game against Florida, winning 3-0, followed by a 4-2 win against Oklahoma and a 2-0 win against Tennessee. Reese Atwood, the Austin Regional MVP, has been the best at the plate for the team throughout this championship run.

On the other side of this best-of-three series, the Red Raiders head into this series as winners of their last 12 games straight. They won the Big 12 Tournament with three wins over Baylor, Arizona State and Arizona. They hosted the Lubbock Regional and beat Brown, 6-0, followed by Mississippi State twice, 10-1 and 9-6.

They failed to host a super regional, heading on the road to Florida State in Tallahassee. They made light work of the super regional, though, winning in two straight games, 3-0 and 2-1. In the WCWS, they opened with a 1-0 defeat against Ole Miss before beating UCLA, 3-1, and Oklahoma, 3-2, advancing in an unlikely run. Nijaree Canady was the Lubbock Regional MVP and has been dominant in this run.
