Third-seeded Florida takes on seventh-seeded Tennessee on Thursday as the 2025 Women’s College World Series continues.

In the second round of the College Softball World Series, the third-seeded Florida Gators and the seventh-seeded Tennessee Lady Vols look to keep their championship dreams alive with a win. Both teams lost in the opening round and now battle to continue their run to the championship in the double-elimination format. The Gators lost their opening round game against Texas on Friday in a tough 3-0 shutout. In the loss, Keagan Rothrock started in the circle, going five innings and allowing five hits, three earned runs and two walks while striking out four batters. Taylor Shumaker and Korbe Otis were the only two Gators to generate hits in the shutout loss. Shumaker and Brown also made it on base by means of a walk, but were left stranded.

The Lady Volunteers lost their opening round game against the second-seeded Oklahoma Sooners. The Volunteers were able to jump out to an early lead when Gabby Leach scored on a passed ball in the top of the first inning. Later in the inning, Sophia Nugent hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Taylor Pannell. In the bottom of the first inning, the Sooners were able to cut the deficit in half with a solo home run. In the top of the third inning, McKenna Gibson hit a ball to left field and reached first base on an error, allowing Ella Dodge to score, putting the Lady Vols ahead 3-1. The Sooners battled back and earned the win with a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh, leaving Tennessee with only one more shot to stay alive in the WCWS.

Florida and Tennessee have a storied history as the teams have met a total of 89 times. Tennessee has won the last four meetings with the most recent taking place in 2023 and resulting in a 4-0 shutout. Tune in Friday night to see which team’s hopes of a national title will live on with a win.
