Longtime rivals clash again as No. 2 seed Oklahoma takes on 6th-seeded Texas at the Women’s College World Series

After first-round victories, second-seeded Oklahoma (51-7) takes on No. 6 seed Texas (52-11) on Saturday afternoon at the Women’s College World Series at Devon Park in Oklahoma City. The Sooners have won eight games in a row and were the co-champions of the Southeastern Conference tournament before rolling through regional and super regional play. The Longhorns are 6-1 in the NCAA tournament and have won three straight. The winner advances to Monday afternoon’s semifinal while the loser comes back on Sunday night for an elimination game against No. 16 seed Oregon.

Ella Parker cracked a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh on Thursday to lift Oklahoma to a 4-3 victory over No. 7 seed Tennessee. Parker got the Sooners on the board with a solo shot in the first and Sam Landry allowed just one earned run in the complete-game win. Kasidi Pickering is slashing .409/.551/.849 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI and Gabbie Garcia leads the team with 20 homers and 58 RBI.

Texas needed no such late drama as Teagan Kavan fired a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory over third-seeded Florida on Thursday. Joley Mitchell hit a solo home run in the second and repeated the feat in the sixth while Katie Stewart also went deep in the sixth. Reese Atwood comes in slashing .409/.527/.869 with 21 homers and 85 RBI while Kayden Henry has 30 steals in 31 attempts.

Landry is 24-4 with a 1.88 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 174.2 innings this season while Kavan has a 25-5 record to go with a 2.46 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 182.1 innings with 213 strikeouts. Oklahoma swept the Longhorns in a three-game series at home on April 25-27.
