Only two games remain in regular season play for Nebraska and Minnesota and one of them will take place Saturday afternoon at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium before the season finale is played on Sunday. The Cornhuskers are currently in third place in the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 11-8 and an overall record of 28-21. In the series opener on Friday night, the teams went back-and-forth before Nebraska finally won in a narrow 7-6 victory. Sydney Gray and Emmerson Cope each blasted solo home runs to open the Nebraska scoring. After Minnesota fought back to take the lead, Samantha Bland fired off a two-run double to give the Huskers the win. Sarah Harness took the win in the circle after she came in for relief and pitched 5.1 innings, striking out one batter.

The Gophers come into Saturday’s game with an overall record of 26-23 and a conference record of 12-9 for a spot in sixth place in the Big Ten standings. The team will look to bounce back from last night’s loss to even the series at one game apiece ahead of the regular season finale. Jacie Hambrick was pegged with Friday’s loss after four innings of work in the circle in which she struck out three batters and gave up two earned runs on nine hits. The Minnesota offense was led by Kayla Chavez who went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Sydney Strelow and Nani Valencia each finished the game with two RBI, but it wasn’t enough to get past Nebraska.
