No. 12 Duke enters the fray at the ACC tournament to face North Carolina in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday night

The 12th-ranked Duke Blue Devils (38-13) come off their bye at the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament on Thursday night when they take on the No. 10-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (32-18) at Palmer Park in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Blue Devils, the No. 2 seed for the tournament, appear set for a sixth straight NCAA tournament appearance and took two of three at North Carolina on April 10-12. The Tar Heels advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over No. 7 seed Clemson on Wednesday.

After North Carolina built its lead to two runs in the top of the fourth, Jil Livengood closed the door with four shutout innings of relief as the Tar Heels knocked off Clemson 4-2 on Wednesday in a first-round matchup. Livengood allowed only one hit over the final four frames. Michele Tarpey’s RBI single in the top of the first gave Carolina the lead and it added two runs on wild pitches in the third before Sanaa Thompson added an insurance run with a solo homer in the fourth.

Aminah Vega sparked the Blue Devils offense this season, slashing .469/.554/.951 while stealing 10 bases without being caught and hitting 16 home runs. Tyrina Jones leads Duke with 20 homers and 73 RBI and D’Auna Jennings is a perfect 16-for-16 on the basepaths. Cassidy Curd comes into the tournament with a 17-2 record to go with a 4.08 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 130.1 innings.

Emily LeGette leads the Tar Heels with 26 homers and 74 RBI while slashing .467/.569/1.104 while Thompson and Shelby Barbee each come in with 14 home runs. Kendall Frost leads the pitchers with 90.2 innings, posting a 10-7 record with a 5.25 ERA and 1.64 WHIP.
